Apple recently released the latest iOS 16.4, which comes with several updates, including new Emojis and more. The most exciting feature that Apple has brought to calls is a new feature called Sound Isolation.

For those unaware, Sound Isolation has actually been available on FaceTime for over a year and has worked very well. It creates a calmer environment, even if you are in a crowded place.

So, now you don’t have to look for a quieter place if you are on a busy street, watching your favorite game in a stadium and need to answer a call on your iPhone.

How do I turn on sound isolation on my iPhone?

First, make sure that you have iOS 16.4 installed on your iPhone and then follow the steps below:

  • Get on a call by starting one or picking up an incoming call.
  • During a call, swipe down from the top left of the screen to access Control Center.
  • The position of the microphone will be located on the top right. Click on it.
  • Tap on the second of the three available options – Standard, Sound Isolation, and Broad Spectrum.
  • Sound isolation will now be activated on your call. All background noise except your voice will be muted.

All iPhones released after 2017 will be able to use Sound Isolation. As mentioned above, the feature is available with iOS 16.4, and any iPhone running that operating system can use it.

Can I activate sound isolation for all calls?

Sound isolation has to be manually activated for select calls as you may only be in a quiet environment sometimes. Hence, the feature cannot be turned on by default. You must be online to activate the feature.

Sound isolation does not require any support from your cellular service provider. Since it is not dependent on your cellular service, you will not need any software patch or setting change to activate it.

Furthermore, the sound isolation feature is available on all voice calls made with the phone; All you have to do is activate it during a call.
