iPhone 14 Pro test: Our honest opinion to help you choose

When we tested the performance, we found the new A16 Bionic chip to be a significant improvement over the A15 Bionic chip in the iPhone 13 Pro. Data is processed faster and memory bandwidth is increased by 50% (very useful if you play mobile games). The phone is also equipped with a six-core processor and a five-core GPU.

iPhone 14 Pro has a 3200mAh battery, which lasts up to 23 hours of video playback. It is capable of fast charging and supports an impressive 20W maximum charging speed. Compared to older iPhone models, the iPhone 14 Pro gets an additional hour of video playback time.

With a Super Retina XDR display and ProMotion technology, the standout new feature is the Always-On Display which allows users to view key information at all times. Apple assures that with the A16 Bionic chipset, Always-On will not affect battery life as badly as you think. However, even though Always-On is a lower-powered version of the lock screen, it took a while to get used to seeing our phone all the time. But don’t worry, if this feature doesn’t work for you, you can always turn it off in the settings.

When we reviewed the audio aspect of the iPhone 14 Pro, we were impressed with the depth of the sound. With stereo speakers on the earcup and bottom of the phone, you can crank up the sound to its fullest without feeling like it’s coming from cramped speakers. The microphones on either side also work great when it comes to recording 3D audio. However, note that the iPhone 14 Pro does not come with a headphone jack. Right now I think the folks at Apple only have wireless headphones (hello AirPods).

iPhone 14 Pro comes with iOS 16 and the new operating system introduces new features like a customizable Lock screen with widgets, iCloud Shared Photo Library, improvements to legacy apps, and the ability to edit and finally delete messages. Perhaps the most talked about feature so far is the new lock screen, which offers more flexibility than in the past, with plenty of options for fonts, live wallpapers, and so on. We had a lot of fun testing different looks for lock screens and found the focus modes to be interesting. It’s a great way to get information at a glance without having to dig deep into our phones.

Also worth noting is the collision detection feature. iPhone 14 Pro can detect a car accident and automatically call emergency services if the user cannot reach their phone. This is possible thanks to the phone’s dual-core accelerometer.
